where they are searching for a suspect who was stopped in a traffic stop that they lost. we would turn to europe >> daybreak is coming and we anticipate the search and rescue to come back out here for the cordillera creek. it started off as a simple traffic stop and the suspect jumped into the swollen banks of the court there creek. police stopped what they thought was a drunk driver. the suspect jumped over the fence after taking off and jumped into the creek. they were able to

keep visual contact with him for about a hundred yards that ultimately they lost sight of him. about 1:00 is when they sent out multiple agencies including the fire department and the marin county sheriff's department and the southern marin fire department and a search and water rescue boats. we had a chance to talk to the police chief and he talked about some of the concerns about the suspect. >> we're very concerned with the swift moving water that he could have gotten caught in something or possibly drowned. we are very concerned for his safety, we hope he is ok. we currently have a swift water rescue boat from the fire department now. we are going up creek trying to locate him. the water doesn't look too dangerous where we are right here by the bottom but i can tell you as yet further out the water is

very quick out there. there at that is the concern that he got caught. they suspended the search for about two hours stating it was just too dark. in a couple of minutes they will start searching again. >> up to they still have his car? >> yes they and pounded the car. it was about two or 3 mi. upstream or the stop took place. they said they know these suspects information. they will not release it to us they are just telling us it is an adult male. >> so they notice it is and they have his car but they want those there searching for. ok, thanks a lot jacket. >> lawmakers say it is that it'll be time to get back to work win at present obama returns to washington. time is running out to avert the fiscal cliff of tax increases in domestic

strikers a hospital officials want to reduce the number of paid sick days for nurses and technicians while maintaining health care coverage for those who work fewer than 30 hours a week. >> we're looking at power outages this morning all across the bay area. here's a look at the numbers. in the north bay 1075 people are without power. on the peninsula, 517. central coast, 376. and in the east bay 288 customers are without power. taking a live look as we're seeing the traffic in san jose as traffic said is very light right now. it will be tough to get around the malls though today. we will be right back.

you can see it rushing down the steps of the stair well, causing the area to partially flood. no one was able to walk down those stairs without facing the risk of slipping. >> this morning we are waking up to much better conditions after flooding hit parts of the bay area. this is the latest from the national weather service. all hydro issues from yesterday's have subsided. all streams and creeks are within their banks a gang. if the napa river has peaked and is beginning to recede. the current level is 9.4 ft., while flood stage is at 16 ft. so we are much below that. the flood warning for the napa river has been cancelled. >> we do have locally dense fog for portions of the north bay. we have said improvements for novato. it

is clear conditions for the heart of the bay area. the visibility is down for those a you driving in the livermore area. we will see an increase in cloud cover to rob the day. this will arrive on christmas day the next storm. as you look out the window you will see that there are rain drops in santa rosa. it will continue to spread its way south. it will stretch all the way down to san francisco. it will remain dry for the south bay but rain will pick up in intensity as we head into 4:00 p.m. on christmas day. >> the bottom half of the bay area should remain dry. the heaviest showers will not pass through to a letter on the day. your christmas forecast shows that the north bay will have rain in the morning and their

morning lows will be in the 40's. for the peninsula and the bay shore it will rain in the afternoon. the south bay will be dry into a letter on an afternoon. if you are headed to the sierra keep your changes handy for interstate 80. it will be a snow right into wednesday. you could see from 4 to 8 in. of snow. your afternoon high today will be in the mid 50s. 56401 and the same thing for oakland. friday however will be a dry one under partly cloudy skies. as we head into saturday issued ba and dry one. >> we are minor's today

light ride around the bay area. our bridge check shows just how light the traffic is at the toll plaza. no meter in lights and no delays. we did have problems earlier but they are completely cleared. highway 92 lights. they have no delays. the golden gate bridge ride definitely is dry out as well. this is good news for the south about 101 ride. the traffic map shows that it is just 12 minutes. it has dropped from 16 minutes. this is from hercules to berkeley. we do have light traffic onto 8285. we are still delay free throw marin county. we're also tracking santa. on the other side of the

cars were almost fully submerged when marin county got hit with heavy rain. if this is old kron 4 video of severe flooding in san rafael from january of 1982. cars were not able to go anywhere in that water. highway traffic funneled down to one lane. >> snow on the evergreens may make for a white christmas, but it is also creating some of the worst travel conditions and 30 years in washington. mother nature forced the closure of highway 2 over stevens pass ice and heavy snow caused treacherous conditions over the weekend. many people found themselves stranded or severely delayed. >> the squaw valley resort has two skiers that were treated for non life- threatening injuries after

the recalled an avalanche. the slide happened just before 10:00 a.m. yesterday. the officials said that neither skier was completely buried by snow and ski patrol was on the scene within minutes. the victims were a 39 year-old woman and a 16 year-old boy. squaw valley says that more than a hundred staff and volunteers did a search of the area and they were able to confirm that no one else was caught in the slide. >> we will be right back.

last night in oakland. marketing the city's 126 homicide of the year. e >> they continue to look for is suspects that jumped into the creek last night. the started about 1238 and the town of ross. they pulled over a suspected drunken driver. when they were giving the sobriety test to the suspect he took off 01 feet and just over a fence. he it and jumped into this creek. they were able to have visual contact with their flashlights but they try to encourage him to get out of the water and that of merely they lost contact with him. they called other agencies to come out to help the mob.them out.

>> they searched until about 430 this morning looking for any signs of the suspect. they could not find anything so that suspended the search. if they come back at daybreak to continue the search. so far they do not have any informational. this is where the command post was an obviously as this case and developing we will pass on any new information that we did. right now, we are waiting for search and rescue to come out here and start searching the creek again. >> authorities say they responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of market street around 830 last night. when they arrived, officers on an adult males suffer from a gunshot wound. that man was pronounced dead at the same.

this is the second homicide of the weekend leading up to the holiday. on saturday around 6:00 p.m., a double shooting on the 1100 block of 32nd street left one man dead and another man in stable condition. >> richmond's homicide rates are down. so far, the city only has 18 people killed down from 453 years ago and about half as many as the yearly average over the past decade. many credit the improvement to law enforcement and community efforts. unlike other cities or around the bay area, richmond has also increased their police force from 150 in 2006 to 190 sworn officers. the total crime rate is down about 20% since 2006. >> developing this morning

wounded, two are killed. >> police are searching for a man who jumped into a creek. kron 4 and jackie sizzled is live with more. >> they have suspended the search. search and rescue is are now back out here to look for the suspect. they stated that the suspect jumped in this creek after a routine traffic stop. according to the police department when their deputies pulled over a suspected drunken driver. while they gave him a sobriety check he then took off running he climbed over a fence and the altar early jump into this creek. obviously because of heavy rain the water was rushing very fast rate there were a but kit visual contact of him for about a hundred
